Why yes….funny you should ask

We apparently DO have a black hole in our house. Unbeknownst to us until last weekend. I do not know whether that is pitiful or hysterical.
It all started with a phone call from Brent (while I was out shopping) looking for something that I said was last seen by the couch.
I came home to THIS:
IMG_1028 What the heck????
Where on earth did all this stuff come from? I have taken off the cushions to clean many a time….how is this possible?
This my friends, is where the black hole comes in. Apparently if you put your hand down the back slit of the couch, there is pockets or something. Whatever it is, it “holds” things and does not allow it to fall to the floor.
IMG_1034 BOTH of our couches have black holes.
Brent said it was like Christmas as he pulled all the stuff out. The kids were squealing with delight. Ha!

Oddly, there was a set of handcuffs. Not sure whose those are….if you left some at our house feel free to come pick them up! Okay fine, they were just toy handcuffs but nevertheless, still perplexing as to where they came from.
IMG_1031 My husband put everything into piles and Avery counted them…..for your enjoyment and my bewilderment and horror.
IMG_1036 Here goes…
Combs….ELEVEN. Yup. A lot of hair being “did” on our couches.

Would you believe she wished for a pony?

The day was September 22, 2005.
It was still hot in Texas, very hot. I remember the day well.
Would her name be Savannah or Sophie? Would she be blonde or brunette? Will she be an easy baby or a hard one?
We know the answers to all these questions….
We named her Savannah. Savannah Reese. She is a blonde. She is the most easy going of our 4 kids…..
Yes, that was one of the best days of my life. Savannah’s best day? Well, she said it was September 22, 2010….her 5th birthday. It went like this:
Savannah’s 5th birthday started bright and early with pancakes as per her request!
DSC_0002 She got a little gift to open as she enjoyed her birthday pancakes with her big sissy.

Then we took out her curlers and got her dressed for school. She could not wait to celebrate her birthday with her school friends. She even brought cupcakes to share too.

After school Grandma came over to give Savannah some gifts from her and Papa. What a treat!

Next, she and Avery Grace had gymnastics. They were both very excited when I picked them up because they both got “promoted” to a higher level class.
DSC_0127 I sent Jackson upstairs with the girls as I prepared her special meal.

She could not believe that she got the EXACT meal she requested. Ha! She giggled all throughout her dinner.

Macaroni and cheese, strawberries with grapes, yogurt and pink lemonade!! What a divine birthday dish for any little girl!

Next, the cinnamon coffee cake! But first…the wish.
DSC_0160 Which just happened to be for a pony. OY! I did not tell her that if you say it out loud it does not come true. I guess she’ll figure it out soon enough. Or maybe she already has since there is no sign of a pony anywhere on the premises.

Lovin’ on my BIG girl.
DSC_0194 Watching her open up these “Twinkle Toes” Sketchers was the best!!!! She was literally giddy and could hardly contain her excitement. These have been on her list for a LONG time.

I love you.

Better than sliced bread…

It is the little things in life, don’t you agree?
The little things bring me so much joy….maybe even more than the big things.
Here are some things that I think are all that and a bag of chips.
Oh my gosh, Brent and I discovered this little gem at Costco.
Actually, Brent prefers the dark chocolate covered pomegranates but I am all about the dark chocolate acais. You pop a couple in your mouth and it totally takes care of your sweet tooth. Not to mention, the antioxidants in both dark chocolate and acai are through the roof! Bonus!!
DSC_0010-2 Hubby and I are trying to give up sodas. We decided to *try* to get rid of artificial sweeteners from our diet due to all the bad press it is getting for causing cancer. We have replaced the sodas with Lifewater and Vitaminwater which are both made with the natural sweetener stevia. They are VERY delicious and are a much needed break from regular water.

My father in law turned us on to my favorite bottle of wine under $10. A little sweet and fruity!
DSC_0013-3 My husband smokes whole chickens on occasion and they are delish!
Doesn’t this one look like he is about to play some football? Hee hee!

STOP THE PRESS!
This next one is a busy moms best friend.
How many times have you woke up late and had to run out the door with dirty hair? Not with this dry shampoo on hand!!!!! Spray and go. AWESOMENESS!
DSC_0046-1 I was so excited when I saw this new product in the store. A moisturizer, spot/freckle reducer, and sunscreen WITH helioplex (which prevents premature skin aging). I feel younger already! ;-)

I got a comment from Elaine on my lipstick. I use Laura Mercier. It is pricy but good. My favorite color is Peony.
DSC_0064 I just love all the campy, silly vintage women saying funny things. My bff sent me the makeup bag for my birthday. Hysterical….and so true!
DSC_0037-1
DSC_0039-1 My 2 favorite perfumes!
And no…I am not a Sex and the City fan, just LOVE the soft scent from Sarah Jessica Parker’s “Lovely”.
“Amazing Grace” is made by Philosophy. It smells clean and fresh.
DSC_0045-1 My 2 favorite planters. I got them at KROGER of all places.
DSC_0003-2
DSC_0004-4 My favorite artist of all time.
William Bouguereau.
When I was a child, my parents owned an original. I would just sit and stare at it…the detail was amazing. I could see the veins under the girls skin. THAT is detail! As an adult I have a gazillion reproductions all over my house. Here is just a few. Oh, the one I grew up with is the one in the bottom right corner with the red flowers in her hair.

Here is another favorite. You can’t tell in this photo, but it is about 5 to 6 feet tall. It is quite the statement in a room!
DSC_0030-2 My last read. Fabulous! The author went to the University of Alabama which makes me like it even more.
